For several generations, libraries like Finkelstein have helped immigrants assimilate to our country by providing help with American citizenship and with basic English language skills.
This year's Fall-Winter Spring Valley "English for Speakers of Other Languages" (ESOL) program started October 15 and will finish February 11, 2014.
ESOL 1 for Spanish speakers who have minimal ability to speak English, and ESOL for more advanced (Intermediate, although speaking at various levels) students from any background meet Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Kurtz Center at 9 North Main Street in Spring Valley.
An ESOL class for women of different backgrounds, who are at various levels of English proficiency, meets at Finkelstein Memorial Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the day.
This Spring, 2014, four classes are planned. Beginning in March, two classes will be held at the Finkelstein Memorial Library and two at the Kurtz Center. The courses offered will be: ESOL 1 for Spanish speakers & ESOL 1 for Creole/French speakers, as well as two Multilevel Classes.
Classes fill quickly. Registration will begin in mid-February. Please check this website or for flyers in early February, 2014 and register at the library's second floor Adult Services desk.
The library thanks Literacy Volunteers of Westchester and Rockland (LVWRC), Hudson Valley Catskill Partnership (HVCP), the Village of Spring Valley, and the Spring Valley Youth Bureau for their support and partnership in this very successful program.
