Our thanks to our Library Friends!

Did you know that Finkelstein Memorial Library patrons can take advantage of free museum passes admitting them to a host of wonderful museums in New York City and throughout the Hudson Valley thanks to the sponsorship of the Friends? Did you know the Friends sponsors free cultural arts programs held at the library?

Our friends group raises funds for many of the activities and amenities we’re able to offer our patrons, and the Library wouldn’t be the same without them so please take the opportunity to show your appreciation for everything they do to support the Library—and through it, our community!

Who are the Friends and what do they do?

  • The Friends of the Finkelstein Memorial Library are people just like you who enjoy the library and support its programs and services in a variety of ways, much like parents support schools through PTA's.
  • The Friends raise money exclusively for library programs, materials, special equipment and services, and to promote the library in the community.
  • The organization is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and maintains a close relationship with the library.
  • The Friends generate financial support through fundraising events and membership dues.
  • Our annual book fair and sale is one of our major fundraisers. Volunteers sort materials and staff the sale.

ANTIQUES APPRAISAL DAY
Sunday, October 19, 2008, 12 pm - 4 pm

Once again, the Friends of the Finkelstein Memorial Library bring you an opportunity to obtain an appraisal of your antiques and collectibles.  Jon Felz, certified appraiser and President of RZM Fine Arts and Antiques, will be on hand at the Fielding Room of the library on Sunday afternoon, October 19 from 12 noon to 4 pm to evaluate your items, give you a bit of their history and explain how he arrived at his assessment.

Perhaps you have a hidden treasure tucked away in your attic or garage.  Here’s your chance to check out that old clock that Aunt Tillie left you, or the picture you picked up at a flea market for a few dollars.  Do you have a collection of dolls, antique clothing, or jewelry whose value you would like to know?  Jon Felz is a certified appraiser with lifelong experience in buying, selling and appraising antiques.  He conducts weekly auctions, estate sales, and is registered with the Better Business Bureau.

Stay on if you like to see and hear about other people’s valuables. Whether or not your items are worth a fortune, we promise you a fascinating and informative afternoon.
