Finkelstein Memorial Library cardholders can now download thousands of eBooks for use on a variety of devices including eReaders, tablets, smartphones, and PCs. At the moment, Freading ebooks are not viewable on any Kindle device.
The Freading ebook service is in addition to our Overdrive eBook service which the Library also offers.
The Freading service offers unlimited, simultaneous access to all titles, so there is no waiting for another user to return a title before you can borrow it. Access to books is controlled by tokens. Each user is given a weekly allotment of 4 tokens which appears in the upper right hand corner of the home page after login. These tokens are redeemed to borrow books.
In order to use the service, you will need to download and install Adobe Digital Editions software on your PC or Macintosh. A link to Adobe Digital Editions is available on the Freading web site.
The Adobe Digital Editions software will limit your access to each ebook for a 2 week initial period. You can extend the loan period for one 2 week period by going back to the book display on the website and hitting the download button again. You will see that the token value has decreased since the initial loan. Most renewals are free.
