Rena Finkelstein, President, Friends of the Library

Our thanks to our Library Friends!

You may not realize the Finkelstein Memorial Library has a Friends group—but you’ve probably seen the many things that our Friends group has accomplished!

Did you know that library patrons can take advantage of free museum passes admitting them to a host of wonderful museums in New York City and throughout the Hudson Valley thanks to the sponsorship of the Friends?   Did you know the Friends sponsors free cultural arts programs held at the library?

Our friends group raises funds for many of the activities and amenities we’re able to offer our patrons, and the Library wouldn’t be the same without them so please take the opportunity to show your appreciation for everything they do to support the Library—and through it, our community!

Who are the Friends and what do they do?

  • The Friends of the Finkelstein Memorial Library are people just like you who enjoy the library and support its programs and services in a variety of ways, much like parents support schools through PTA's.
  • The Friends raise money exclusively for library programs, materials, special equipment and services, and to promote the library in the community.
  • The organization is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and maintains a close relationship with the library.
  • The Friends generate financial support through fundraising events and membership dues.
  • Our annual book fair and sale is one of our major fundraisers. Volunteers sort materials and staff the sale.

Successful Community Fair & Book Sale in 2008

The Friends of the Library kicked off National Library Week with a fair and book sale. Much to the satisfaction of a steady stream of book lovers, bargain hunters and treasure seekers, the meeting room overflowed with materials. Clowns from RSVP senior volunteer service provided face painting and balloon creations. And, singer/guitarist Richard Stolfi performed music from the 60s and 70s.

The Friends’ sponsor activities that foster community involvement, fundraise for special events, and increase awareness of and support for the library’s many services. For further information call 352-5700, ext.261.
