Established in February 2002, the Robert H. Finkelstein Technology Center helps bridge the digital divide by providing information literacy and computer skills to FML patrons within the East Ramapo Central School District and the community-at-large. It is responsible for Information Technology Management, Training, and Support Services.
Here at the Tech Center, we provide technical assistance, support, and various educational services for both patrons and all staff members. The department continues to maintain existing technology while exploring innovative ideas, and new found technology apparatus. The Technology Center has 12 computers within its enclosed ‘classroom’ area, with another 38 computers located directly outside of the center. These machines are equipped with Linux, Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 operating systems and free Open Office software or software provided by Microsoft Windows Accessories: Calculator, Notepad, Paint, WordPad, etc. Other software available for use: Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word), Internet Explorer, and Photoshop. These systems also provide access to the Library’s electronic resources (online magazines and reference databases), eBooks, etc.
Computers are available for 60/90 minutes to any patron holding a valid RCLS library card. Out-of-town visitors may receive one guest pass per day by showing the Tech Center staff valid i.d.
All patrons are allotted $.30 per day for printing. Thereafter, the prices are as follows:
B&W: $.15 per page
Color: $.25 per page
A Bookscan station is available to all patrons. This station will scan and convert books into PDF, Word or Excel files which you may then print, email, send to your Smartphone (with a QR Code reader) or to Google Docs, or save them to your USB drive*.
* 1GB USB flash drives may be purchased at the Circulation Desk for a cost of $6.00.
We also have a number of laptops available for 90-minute in-house only loan. Please see Tech Center staff for details or click here to view our laptop loan policy.
Interested in watching a movie while in the library? We are also offering portable DVD players for in-house use. Ask a Tech Center staff member for details or click here to view our DVD player loan policy.
Classics on a Kindle: The Technology Center has several Kindles pre-loaded with over 100 classic titles. They may be borrowed for a 2 week period. Stop by the Tech Center for further information. Click here for a full list of titles.
WiFi access is available throughout the library for those patrons with wireless devices such as laptops, tablets, SmartPhones, etc.
The use of another patron’s library card will result in the suspension of library internet privileges for all parties involved.
You must have your library card present to access the computers. All patrons who cannot present their library card and ID upon request will be asked to log off the computer immediately.
If you forget or lose your library card, Technology Center staff cannot access or retrieve your barcode number. Please continue to the Circulation Desk on the first floor with proper picture ID to gain access to your information.
If you are a visitor to the library, our staff can allow you access to our computers with a guest card. Your residency must be out of state or out of county, providing proper proof and identification.
If you are not a member of our library but reside in our district, we cannot give you a guest pass. You must apply for a library card with the Circulation Desk on the first floor. No exceptions!
